Plumbers urged to claim benefits

January 8, 2015 | Comments Off

The Plumbing Industry Pension Scheme is appealing to its members to get in touch over unclaimed benefits. Those who have lost contact are generally members who are no longer contributing to the Scheme and have moved house without notifying their new address. The Plumbing Industry Pension Scheme believes that it is important to keep all members notified about their pension entitlement – as well as being able to pay the benefits to them at the due date. Regular notification through annual pension credit certificates enables members to be kept in touch about the amount of pension they are entitled to which means they are able to plan for their financial future. In addition to a range of other methods used by the Scheme to trace ‘lost’ members, Plumbing Pensions recently joined a service called Find My Lost Pension. (www.findmylostpension.com), enabling individuals to check whether any pension benefits are being held on their behalf by any of the schemes participating in the service just by inserting their National Insurance number onto the website. Encouragingly, within 24-hours of joining this service, Plumbing Pensions had already received information about 14-members for whom the Scheme did not hold a current address. The Plumbing Pensions Scheme team can be contacted on: 08457 656565

Baxi spearheads safety in spares after division name change

August 11, 2014 | Comments Off

Baxi has given a new name to its Interpart division – Baxi Genuine Parts. The move, which follows extensive customer research, is part of Baxi’s continued focus on driving safety and quality standards in the UK’s heating spares sector. While the use of non-genuine parts is relatively low in the UK, the impact of unknowingly installing one can be huge; implicating the integrity of the installation, the safety of the home owner and cost of ensuring repair work. In addition, they can cause the home owner’s boiler warranty to be invalid. Later in the year, customers can also expect to see the arrival of the new Baxi Genuine Parts website which will replace the former Interpart site. Interpart has a 30-year history of supplying rigorously tested spares and parts from all Baxi brands such as Potterton, Main, Heatrae Sadia, and Andrews Water heaters. The new name and brand strategy has received the full backing of the Heating and Hot water Industry Council, aiding in its overall aim to raise safety standards in the UK’s domestic heating and hot water industry.

Energy Saving Tips Around The Home

May 8, 2014 | Comments Off

  • Ensure that fridges and freezers are defrosted regularly to improve efficiency.
  • Make sure your fridge and freezer are not next to a heater or oven, as this will make them work harder to keep cold and use more electricity.
  • Use the right sized pan for the food and the hob.
  • Use saucepan lids to help keep the heat in while cooking.
  • Turn off the lights when you leave the room.
  • Don’t leave appliances on standby. Turn them off completely when you are not using them.
  • Invest in thick, good quality curtains to keep the cold from your windows out of the room.
  • Replace standard light bulbs with energy saving ones. If you replace one standard light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) of the same brightness, you could save around £3 per year.
  • Dry laundry outdoors whenever possible instead of using a tumble drier.
  • Never dry clothes on your radiators. This prevents heat from circulating in the room and means your boiler will have to work even harder to heat your home.

Energy Saving Tips – Hot Water

| Comments Off

  • Ensure that you fill dishwashers and washing machines before you run a wash and make sure you use an Eco setting if possible.
  • Don’t leave taps running while you do the washing up. Instead fill a sink and try to only rinse utensils in cold water.
  • Don’t leave taps running in the bathroom either. Remember to turn of the tap while you clean your teeth and use cold water whenever possible.
  • Use your hot water storage cylinder thermostat wisely. If you have a water cylinder with a thermostat, keep it set to around 60 degrees Celsius; a higher temperature is un-necessary for most homes.
  • Don’t boil more water than you need. Kettles use lots of electricity so don’t fill your kettle right to the top unless you really need to.
  • Repair a leaking or dripping tap as soon as possible so you don’t waste water.
  • Shower whenever possible. Baths use more hot water and are far less efficient.
  • Invest in a water-efficient shower head; you could save up to £65 on your gas bills and £95 on your water bills per year.
  • Insulate your hot water cylinder; an insulating jacket costs as little as £15 and could save you up to £115 on your gas bill each year.
